Ridgewood Elementary School

Ridgewood Elementary Officially Opened Its Doors

Ridgewood Elementary is one of three new schools that was approved by voters in the Frenship ISD 2020 Bond. Frenship’s fourth middle school, Alcove Trails Middle School, opened last August and the second high school, Frenship Memorial High School, will open in August of 2025. Frenship is one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas, and the addition of a ninth elementary school continues to help accommodate the growing number of student enrollment.

Ridgewood Elementary welcomed more than 500 students through their doors on the first day of school. Construction on the 112,000 square-foot campus began in November of 2022 and includes 63 classrooms, a full-size-competition gym, and other amenities similar to Frenship’s other elementary campuses.

Leading up to the first day, Ridgewood families participated in the inaugural Back-to-School Bash, walking through the halls, meeting teachers, and getting to know the new facility. Students relished food trucks and made new friends as they familiarized themselves with their new school.

Sunnie Otto serves as the Assistant Principal at Ridgewood Elementary alongside Principal, Brandy Copeland. Otto stated she sometimes feels like an acrobat balancing all the newness of opening a school and the pleasure of getting to know the students and parents.

“This first week at The Ridge has been a whirlwind of excitement,” said Otto. “The energy in our building is electric, and it’s bonded our staff in transformative ways. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us!”
