Frenship High School senior Brayden Tomlinson has always harbored a deep passion for sports. While he could not actively participate in sports due to a heart defect, his love for baseball and football remained steadfast. From a young age, he found a unique way to stay connected to the games—through broadcasting. 

“When I was younger, I would practice commentating and analyzing games at home,” said Tomlinson. “When I joined Frenship High School, I immediately got involved with Frenship.TV, which gave me the chance to hone my broadcasting skills.” 

Tomlinson’s involvement with Frenship.TV not only refined his skills but also opened doors for professional development. He gained valuable experience learning from industry professionals at Fox Sports Network and Texas Tech Radio. This hands-on training has helped him shape his career aspirations. 

“Broadcasting blends storytelling with real-time analysis, allowing me to bring unforgettable sports moments to life and share them with others,” Tomlinson explained. “It’s a way for me to stay connected to the sports I love, even if I’m not on the field.” 

One of the most impactful aspects of Tomlinson’s journey has been his experience working alongside Keith Patrick, Frenship ISD’s Director of Strategic Initiatives. Tomlinson’s dedication and passion for sports broadcasting led Patrick to invite him to assist with stats during Frenship football games, an opportunity that had not previously been offered to a student. 

“Our previous stats person, Shane Langen, was unable to help out this year due to work commitments, so Brayden immediately came to mind,” said Patrick. “We hadn’t had a student involved in this capacity before, but I knew Brayden’s love for sports and stats made him the perfect fit. After getting approval from the district, everything fell into place.” 

Patrick emphasized the importance of providing students with hands-on experiences in fields they are passionate about, especially in niche professions like sports broadcasting. 

“On-the-job training is one of the most powerful educational tools,” said Patrick. “Brayden is blazing a trail in sports broadcasting, and I’m excited about what this can mean for the future of Frenship’s Media Program.” 

Patrick is proud of the dedication and work ethic that Tomlinson brings to the team. 

“Brayden is an amazing young man who has overcome plenty of obstacles in his life, "said Patrick. “He’s smart, works hard, and has the respect of his peers and adults alike. He’s extremely informed about the things he enjoys and isn’t afraid to ask questions to grow his knowledge. It’s been a pleasure working with him.”

Looking ahead, Tomlinson plans to pursue a double major in Journalism and Public Relations, with a certification in Sports Media from Texas Tech University. His ultimate goal is to become a sports broadcaster, with a dream of commentating for the Texas Rangers. 

“I’ve learned so much through Frenship.TV and from Keith Patrick,” Tomlinson said. “I’m grateful for these opportunities and excited about what the future holds.” 

Frenship continues to support its students by creating unique opportunities that foster professional growth.
