The Frenship Special Education Game Day is an event dedicated to all elementary and middle school Life Skills students and Special Education students. The event was created to provide Life Skills students with a day of fun and engaging activities. This year’s Game Day featured 16 different stations where students rotated through each game event, participating in every activity in a safe and supportive environment.

The idea for the Special Education Game Day stemmed from a desire to offer students an opportunity to shine in an environment tailored to their needs.

“I wanted to give our kiddos an opportunity to participate in a day dedicated to them,” said Cody Coyle, Adapted Physical Education Teacher. “Some of our students have limited access to leagues and events of this nature, so it was important to all of us to be able to provide them with as many opportunities to showcase their talents.”

The event showcased a wide array of games and activities designed to engage and entertain the students. This included bowling, obstacle courses, football, baseball, tug-o-war, tennis, velcro toss, volleyball, soccer, parachute games, and more. The variety of activities ensured that every student could find something they enjoyed and could excel in.

“Our Life Skills students absolutely love days where they can play and be kids, and Gameday gives them the opportunity to do just that,” said Coyle. “Having a day catered to them is important for me because it allows them to participate at their highest levels in a safe environment.”

Each Frenship campus sported different colored shirts provided by event sponsor, Exceptional Community Hospital. The Heritage Middle School group won the Spirit Award for their extra enthusiasm and creative team spirit.

The Special Education Department would like to thank Exceptional Community Hospital for sponsoring the event by providing games, swag items, and more.

Coyle wants to extend his gratitude to the staff, teachers, and families who made the event possible.

“I want to thank all of our staff and teachers for playing a role in making this event a success. Giving our students opportunities like this is critically important for them and their families. I also want to thank all of our families who attended the event to support their children,” said Coyle.

Jennifer Pierce, Frenship’s Director of Special Education, loved seeing the pure joy that the games brought to the students.

“My favorite part of the Special Education Game Day is the kids! They are smiling, laughing, and so excited to get to do something new. It truly brings joy to our Frenship community,” said Pierce.

The Frenship Special Education Game Day was more than just a day of games; it was a celebration of inclusion and community.

“We want to give our students a safe, supportive, and fun learning experience to celebrate with their families and community,” said Pierce.

Frenship’s next big event for Special Education is the Region 17 Field Day. This event will be hosted at Frenship’s Peoples Bank Stadium on October 8, for middle school and high school students.
